JOSE ARTESANO is inspired by organic craftmanship products creatively made by artistic hands from Mexico to share with the rest of the world. Our mission is to portray the richness of the natural resources and culture hidden in every corner of our beautiful country while helping Mexican rural artisans. We offer amazing creations using raw and sustainable materials provided by mother nature.
We are focused on products made out from OCOXAL (Pine Needles), ancestral handicrafts that reflect the latent and close contact that Mexican rural communities have with their natural surroundings, the Pine Forest. The Pine Needles have a specific and essential function in the survival and preservation of the forest, once the OCOXAL detaches from the tree, it forms a dense mat on the forest floor that prevents other plants growing as well as keeping soil humid. Also, decomposition of Pine Needles work as a natural compost.
All of our products are made by Mexican rural artisans, who have a long-standing tradition of collecting pine needles from ancient pine forests in central Mexico. With tradition comes expertise, which is easily demonstrated in the super neat finishing of the OCOXAL products they build. When the Pine Needles reach the extraordinary and working hands of Mexican artisans, it reveals the unlimited imagination with result in handicrafts with colorful threads with a natural aroma of Pine Forest.
Mexico is considered the country with the largest amount of Pine species in the world, with 42% of the total species in the world. Mexico has 46 species, 3 subspecies and 22 pine variations, where 55% are endemic. The Mexican pine forest is one of the most valuable resources for our traditions, for our cultural heritage and for the environmental services it provides.
